O Lily!
November 2002
Salles de Bains, Rotterdam, Michel van Adrichem
420 lilies, rope and latex paint, 0.5 x 4 x 2.5m
On entering the small room, the viewer immediately senses its unusual layout, with two doors facing each other and forming a corridor-like space. This tension between entrances became the starting point for the installation.
Reddish-brown lilies flow across a green surface, inviting the visitor to step on the delicate flowers as he makes his way to the adjoining room.
A reinforced rope, suspended horizontally at 0.5 metres in an elliptical curve, guides the visitor through the floral landscape. Over time, a trail emerges, traced by the footsteps of those who have passed before, marking the delicate interaction between body and installation.
