O Lily!
November 2002
Salles de Bains, Rotterdam, Michel van Adrichem
420 lilies, rope and latex paint, 0.5 x 4 x 2.5m
On entering the room, the viewer is greeted by reddish-brown lilies flowing in one direction on a green surface. The scene invites them to immerse themselves in the floral landscape, but a peculiar challenge awaits. They must step on the delicate flowers to navigate their way across the surface.
A key element of the installation is a horizontally suspended reinforced rope, positioned at a height of 0.5 metres to form an elliptical shape. This structure diverts the visitor and guides their trajectory through the floral landscape. Gradually a trail becomes visible, marked by the footsteps of those who have walked the path before.
