Among Fir and Rosemary

29 May – 10 June 2019

Old ParsonageMarkgravelei 95, Antwerp, Ons Toekome Uw Rijk

wood, banner, rope, different dimensions

A white banner is delicately positioned between a deceased fir and a decomposed rosemary. The size of the form at either end is determined by the circumference of these organic entities, creating a harmonious yet subtly tense connection. The surface of the banner is made up of strips sewn together, revealing a pattern of stitches and lines. Impregnated slats are strategically placed underneath, cut to size into piles and secured with horizontal joints. The edges are carefully held in place with mason’s twine. This human effort represents an attempt to bridge the gap between the dead one and the living.
