Domain d’Ursel, Hingene, Monumental, After Nature, Tom Peeters

wood and banner, 8 x 9 x 1.10 m

The oak in the Ursel domain is surrounded by a wooden structure adorned with a white banner. This structure forms an inclined plane that gradually tapers towards the rear, taking into account the perspective of the surrounding trees. On either side of the structure are steps that allow visitors not only to approach the tree trunk, but also to cross to the other side of the installation. This gives the space a transitional feel.

At the centre of the installation, people have the option of looking up or down under the protective shelter of the banner. The interplay between this surface, the visible foundation and the ground itself creates a visual layering effect. It simultaneously reinforces the presence of the oak and creates a subtle separation from its rooted connection to the earth.
